Day 0 — Briefing
We meet for a briefing at the cozy Café Campesino, in Villa Cerro Castillo, where we talk about the adventure ahead. This gathering is essential to get acclimated and meet your fellow trekkers.

The adventure begins at 9:00 am. We set out on a 24 km trek across mostly flat terrain, enjoying spectacular views and crossing crystal-clear rivers. The campsite is located at Mallín Quemado, an ideal spot to rest and connect with nature.

Torres del Avellano Viewpoint
We do a 16 km round trip to the stunning Torres del Avellano viewpoint. The route takes us through the majestic range, passing by Cerro Los Pumas, with views of pristine mountains and valleys. At the end of the day we return to the Mallín Quemado campsite to share stories and enjoy dinner under a starry sky.

We begin our return. We leave the Mallín Quemado campsite, walk 6 km and arrive at the Mallín Plaza campground. A relaxed day where we'll discover a hidden lake formed by glacial melt. We spend the night at Mallín Plaza.

The most important decision
Going with or without a porter?
Traveling light is comfort, and it's safety. Over 63 km, with one 24 km day of pure flat terrain, what you carry on your back defines how you arrive at Torres del Avellano: exhausted, or with the energy to enjoy the valley.
The pilchero porter is a local muleteer who carries up to 55 kg: tents, food, gas and pots for the whole group. You only carry your day pack — water, warm layers, camera.
It's a shared service among everyone on the departure who booked that option — it's not an exclusive muleteer per person.

Why don't we include a tent?
The trek is organized with mixed groups, and our tents are for two people. We prefer that each participant bring their own: it avoids discomfort from sharing, and everyone has their own space and privacy during the 3 nights of camping.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do this if I've never done a multi-day trek before?
Yes, but we recommend the porter option. The difficulty of this route lies in the accumulated distance (63 km over 4 days), not in technical mountaineering — with the load off your back, it's an accessible trek even if it's your first multi-day experience.
What happens if it rains or the weather changes?
Weather in Patagonia changes fast — always carry waterproof layers. Except in conditions that put the group's safety at risk, the trek runs as planned. Specific rescheduling terms are in the refund policy we send you when you confirm your spot.
Are there bathrooms or tables at the campsites?
No. Torres del Avellano is not a developed national park — these are rustic campsites on natural terrain, with no installed infrastructure. That's part of what keeps this route wild and untouched.
Can I put together my own group and get a discount?
Yes. If you complete a group of 5 or 6 people, we apply a 10% discount per registered person, on either program option.
If I go solo and pay for the porter, does the muleteer carry only my gear?
No. The pilchero porter is a shared service among everyone on that departure who booked that option. You carry less weight just like in a group, but the muleteer carries everyone's gear equally — it's not a private or exclusive service for one person.
